Travelers Lacking Real ID To Face New $45 Airport Fee

Air travelers in the U.S. without a REAL ID will be charged a $45 fee beginning in February, the Transportation Security Administration announced Monday. The updated ID has been required since May, but passengers without it have so far been allowed to clear security with additional screening and a warning. The Department of Homeland Security says 94% of passengers are already compliant and that the new fee is intended to encourage travelers to obtain the ID. REAL ID is a federally compliant state-issued license or identification card that meets enhanced requirements mandated in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Obtaining the ID — indicated by a white star in a yellow circle in most states — means taking more documents to the motor vehicle agency than most states require for regular IDs. It was supposed to be rolled out in 2008 but the implementation had been repeatedly delayed. Beginning Feb. 1, travelers 18 and older flying domestically without a REAL ID and who don’t have another accepted form of ID on them, such as a passport, will pay the non-refundable fee to verify their identity through TSA’s alternative “Confirm.ID” system. TSA officials said that paying the fee does not guarantee verification, and travelers whose identities cannot be verified may be turned away. If approved, however, the verification covers a 10-day travel period. The fee can be paid online before arriving at the airport. Travelers can also pay online at the airport before entering the security line, but officials said the process may take up to 30 minutes. The TSA initially proposed an $18 charge for passengers without a REAL ID, but officials said Monday they raised it after realizing the alternative identification program would cost more than anticipated. Other acceptable forms of ID include military IDs, permanent resident cards and photo IDs from federally recognized tribal nations. TSA also accepts digital IDs through platforms such as Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet at more than 250 airports in the U.S.

Dell family donates $6 billion to 'Trump accounts' of 25 million U.S. children

Entrepreneur Michael Dell and his wife, Susan, will deposit $250 in the individual investment accounts of 25 million American children in a $6.25 billion philanthropic pledge as part of the Trump administration's Invest America initiative. The initiative, known as "Trump accounts", was created this year under President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act and has sparked a scramble by financial firms looking to participate. The U.S. Treasury will deposit $1,000 into investment accounts for all children born between 2025 and 2028. The Invest America accounts are expected to open on July 4 next year, but details about how they will work are still unknown. The funds - required to be invested in an index fund that mirrors the performance of the broader stock market - become available at the age of 18 for education, job training, a first home or starting a business. "We believe the smartest investment that we can make is an investment in children," Michael Dell said at a White House event announcing the donation. Shares of Dell - which is not affiliated with the couple's foundation - were up more than 3%. Michael Dell founded the technology company in 1984 and serves as its chairman and chief executive officer. Trump said at the White House that the gift would give middle-class children a stake in American economic and stock market growth. "It really gives them a shot at the American dream," he said. He added that he would make a personal contribution towards the effort. The Dells said the funds are mainly aimed at children up to age 10, but kids who are older may benefit if the funds remain available after initial sign-ups. They will put money into the accounts of children who live in ZIP codes where the median family's income is $150,000 or less, according to a spokesperson for the Dells. Since its creation in 1999, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has given about $2.9 billion for charitable works, mainly focused on education. The couple's $6.25 billion commitment for Invest America comes from other charitable funds and not their foundation. Michael Dell, who started the company with $1,000 in his freshman dorm room at the University of Texas, is worth nearly $150 billion, according to the Forbes real-time billionaire list. Financial firms have been scrambling to grab a piece of the program, according to public lobbying records. The Investment Company Institute, a Washington trade group representing the world's largest asset managers, on October 29 wrote to the Treasury urging it to create a "robust and competitive marketplace for account trustees and custodians," rather than picking a single provider for the program. A competitive marketplace is key to the program's long-term success by incentivizing providers to promote the accounts and provide important educational information, the group said. In a Tuesday statement, ICI reiterated that position and also called for "flexibility in the eligible investments." Several other industry groups and asset managers, including BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and Ameriprise Financial, have also been lobbying on Trump accounts, public records show. The companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Man Hurls Molotov Cocktails At The Los Angeles Federal Building

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of throwing Molotov cocktails at the Los Angeles Federal Building, authorities said Tuesday. Nobody was hurt. Security guards heard a man yelling derogatory comments about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement outside the downtown building on Monday, according to a statement by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He then hurled two incendiary devices at the guards, the department said. “Fortunately, the bottles were not lit and did not catch fire and there were no injuries or damage to federal property,” the DHS statement said. FBI agents arrested Jose F. Jovel, of Los Angeles, said bureau spokesperson Laura Eimiller. She said federal prosecutors were expected to file a criminal complaint on Tuesday. It wasn't known Tuesday if Jovel has an attorney. The Federal Public Defender's Office didn't immediately respond to a phone call asking if one of its attorneys is representing him. Jovel, who had four knives on him when he was arrested, has an “extensive criminal history,” including an attempted murder charge in 1987, the DHS statement said.

The Truth on Trump's Tariffs

Today, Josh Hammer breaks down the stakes of a major special election in Tennessee, asking whether Democrats actually have a shot at flipping a deep-red seat — and what that would signal heading into 2026. Josh then updates listeners on the Russia–Ukraine peace talks being facilitated by the United States and what the latest developments mean for global stability. Next, Josh torches the Left’s ongoing witch hunt against Pete Hegseth over a drug-boat strike earlier this year, exposing how critics are twisting the facts to score political points. Finally, Josh is joined by Oren Cass, Chief Economist at American Compass, to dig into the one issue that will define the next election: the economy. Cass explains why inflation is dramatically lower than when President Trump took office, how messaging — not numbers — drives voter perception, and why tariffs play a far smaller role in consumer prices than the media wants you to believe.

White House says second deadly drug boat strike was legal

The White House confirms a second military strike was ordered against a suspected drug-smuggling boat to eliminate any survivors. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the September 2nd action as “lethal targeting” and said it was carried out “in self-defense” and “in accordance” with laws governing armed conflict. The strike has drawn scrutiny from lawmakers of both parties after reports that Defense Secretary Hegseth instructed the military to “kill everybody” aboard the vessel. The White House maintains the action was legally justified and necessary to protect U.S. personnel and interests.

Mangione seeks to block evidence in UnitedHealthcare CEO murder case

Luigi Mangione, the 27-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is asking a New York judge to exclude key evidence ahead of his state trial. During a hearing in Manhattan, Mangione’s attorneys moved to block prosecutors from introducing a handgun they say matches the weapon used in the December 4, 2024, killing. They are also seeking to exclude a handwritten notebook that, according to prosecutors, details his intent to “wack” a health insurance executive. Court officials say the evidentiary hearings could last more than a week, likely extending through the anniversary of the attack. Mangione — an Ivy League-educated member of a wealthy Maryland family — was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days after the shooting. His trial date has not yet been set.
