Despite calling Chicago the nation’s “greatest city,” he criticized Democratic mayor Brandon Johnson’s leadership. “When we’re ready, we’ll go in and straighten out Chicago, just like we did D.C.,” Trump said in the Oval Office. By accusing D.C. police of falsifying crime data and threatening the mayor with a “total Federal takeover,” he’s sought to muscle the city’s leadership into submission, providing a potential roadmap for how the president might engage with other American cities deemed too dangerous. Trump also suggested New York could also receive similar treatment down the line.

Authorities say an apparent accident involving exposure to gas at a dairy in Colorado has killed six people. First responders found the bodies in a confined space at Prospect Valley Dairy on Wednesday. The Weld County coroner said Thursday that authorities are investigating what kind of gases might have played a role in the deaths. The coroner’s office says the identities of the six victims are being withheld until the families are notified. The dairy is located along a rural road near Keenesburg, about 35 miles northeast of Denver. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

A tour bus returning to New York City from Niagara Falls has crashed on an interstate highway, killing and injuring multiple people. The accident happened Friday near Pembroke, about 25 miles east of Buffalo. Police say the bus lost control, leading to shattered windows and passengers being ejected. The driver survived. Several ambulances and medical helicopters transported patients to area hospitals. The New York State Thruway Authority has shut down a lengthy stretch of the roadway, urging drivers to avoid the area.

A judge says former Trump lawyer Alina Habba has been unlawfully serving as US attorney in New Jersey. Habba’s term as the interim U.S. attorney ended on July 26th, but the Trump administration took steps to keep her in the role without getting Senate confirmation. And now, a federal judge says Habba, who once served as Donald Trump’s personal defense attorney, has been serving unlawfully as New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor. The judge put his order on hold pending an appeal.

The person wasn't authorized to discuss the investigation by name and spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. They say the search is part of an investigation into the handling of classified documents. Messages left with a spokesperson for Bolton and the White House weren't immediately returned. A lawyer who's represented Bolton had no immediate comment Friday.
