“Then He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.”
Ponder This
Throughout the Bible, there is a single plan of salvation. God made skins of animals to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve, pointing to the shed blood and the covering the Lord Jesus gives. For Cain and Abel, there was a spotless lamb to take away sin. When God told Noah to build an ark, He said, “Put pitch on the outside and in the inside of that ark.” And the word for “pitch” means “atonement.” Put atonement on the outside, atonement on the inside, because the saving ark was a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ. The water was judgment, but not one drop of judgment could come through that atonement in that ark of safety, which pictured Jesus. Another picture was the Passover Lamb, when the Israelites sprinkled the blood of the lamb upon the door. And God said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you,” for Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us.
We not only have the personal witnesses we hear, but the prophetic witness of the Scriptures. All the Old Testament points to the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the grand story God has been writing. This plan of redemption has been what He is after. Throughout the Bible, we are pointed to Jesus. We were designed to be made right with God through Him.
