An award-winning cookbook author and San Francisco restaurant owner received a lot of negative attention after he declared on Twitter that he will refuse service to anyone wearing a red Make America Great Again baseball cap.

Several outlets reported on J. Kenji López-Alt’s Sunday tweet that stated, “If you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate.”

The post had more than 2,100 likes from his followers, but López-Alt later deleted the tweet after admitting that the business has received negative emails and comments from diners.

López-Alt later tweeted an apology to his staff and partners for his disrespectful and reckless” public statement.
