When Reality Leaves The Building

RSS Feed

Democrats have a reality problem.  I am not referring to the unicorn based ideology that so many propose as a smokescreen for their power-grabbing efforts.  Rather, I think they have completely lost touch with political reality.  Their policies have long been unrealistic, but lately it seems like they have lost their grip on electoral realities.  Yesterday I made mention of the fact that they have a crop of senatorial candidates that seem, to my mind, unelectable.  Michigan’s Abdul El-Sayed leads that charge of the unelectables, but the more I dig, the worse it gets.

Speaking of El-Sayed, you know who did a campaign appearance with him last month? – Kamala Harris, who is still seriously in the 2028 presidential discussions – seriously.  Does anyone remember 2024?  She was, unquestionably, the worst major party presidential candidate in history.  You can tell me until you are blue-in-the-face about the tactical disadvantages she had in 2024 – starting late and without being able to build a base in a primary.  But please – face reality.  She was a word salad spewing, uncharismatic disaster.  She “inherited” a large, well-functioning, enormously well-funded  campaign and proceeded to render it completely inoperable.  Outstripping its financial resources in the process.

You know how processed foods are the next thing that is going to kill us? Kamala Harris in 2024 was the electoral equivalent.  She was the Hostess Twinkie of candidates – full of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives, packaged brightly and attractively, but utterly devoid of nutritional value.  (BTW, it is telling that I could not get AI to render an image of her looking like a Twinkie….)  The only reason she is in this 2028 discussion is because like a Twinkie, her preservative level is so high she just might survive a nuclear apocalypse.

What constitutes an electoral preservative?  Money.  She has some deep pockets in her pocket.  But even that only goes so far.

Consider this story of a ballot measure in Idaho in the current election.  Multiple liberal billionaires and organizations kicked in big money for Prop 1, which would overturn the current legislative ban on abortion in the state.  But they completely forgot how large the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is in that state.  The LDS have coughed up multiple millions to counter the effort.  Following the LDS lead, the Roman Catholic church is urging its members to vote against the proposition.  It is not the money-driven cakewalk the libs thought it was going to be.

And that is where Dems have really lost touch with reality.  They think it is all about money – raise more, spend more, win more.  But it doesn’t always work that way.  Voters have concerns beyond their pocketbooks.  In some, as in Idaho, it is their faith.  Many know that a temporary rise in prices at the gas pump is a minor inconvenience to combat the most evil scourge this planet has seen in decades.  Many just know a Twinkie when they see one.

Hostess, the makers of Twinkies, went bankrupt in 2012.  Democrats may just be headed in the same direction.
