Life is not always going to be a fun or an easy experience. In fact, some instances will be downright painful and unpleasant. Not every circumstance will have you jumping for joy. But what will you do when those moments of hurt, pain, and struggle arrive?

Based on the life of author, speaker, and podcast host John O’Leary, “Soul on Fire” tells the story of his being badly burned as a child and what he was able to do and accomplish despite his horrific injuries. It’s a story of love, hope, faith, and refusing to give up even when the odds are not in your favor.

Near the trailer's beginning, a character states that John has suffered burns to 100 percent of his body. His statement and tone make it clear that all hope should be abandoned. However, the encouragement and kindness John receives from other characters help spur him on to a life of purpose and of inspiring others.

One line from the trailer, spoken by John, perfectly sums up the hopeful, uplifting, and encouraging message and feel of the film.

While going through a house requiring extensive work, a young woman asks John, “Why would a man who can’t hold a hammer choose to be a contractor?” John replies, “I guess I like to just see houses for what they can be, not what they are.”

Starring William H. Macy and John Corbett, “Soul on Fire” opens in theaters on Oct. 10, 2025. The film is rated PG for “thematic content including burn injuries, some peril, and suggestive material.”

Romans 15:13 “Now may the God of hope make you full of joy and peace through faith, so that all hope may be yours in the power of the Holy Spirit.”
