Kat Von D, a tattoo artist, musician, and entrepreneur, has announced her formal entry into the Orthodox Church as part of her spiritual journey.

Von D, who was baptized as a Christian in 2023, shared a video montage on Instagram earlier this month that included her attending Orthodox liturgies and feast days and visiting churches in several countries with her son during her European tour.

“It brings me joy to share some of the beauty of Orthodoxy within these sacred (and historic) places with you, whether you are Orthodox Christian or not,” she said.

Von D also shared that her priest encouraged her to refrain from sharing further details of her conversion from Protestantism to the Orthodox Church, The Christian Post reported.

“Since officially entering the Orthodox Church this last Pascha, many of you have lovingly asked to hear more about why I converted from Protestant to Orthodoxy,” she wrote. “And after speaking about it with Archpriest Father Steven, he strongly (and wisely) encouraged me to refrain from going out and doing any public interviews...until after at least a year. Which I think is great advice.”

“Regardless, I never want to ‘hide’ where I am, spiritually speaking,” she added. “But I am okay waiting until I am better equipped to represent the Church that I love so much.”

“In the meantime, I hope you enjoy peeking into this window—it’s the biggest part of my life that most of the time I keep to myself and loved ones,” she said.

She concluded her post with a small prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

In 2022, Von D shared that she had thrown away books pertaining to witchcraft and the occult. She was baptized a year later at her former church, Switzerland Baptist Church in Vivay, Indiana, which was met with both praise and criticism, particularly from Christians.

It was just really sad to see this critical display of judgment from Christians,” Von D said at the time. “And I don’t understand what would inspire that aside from something that’s more egoic—because that isn’t Christlike.”

“I don’t really feel equipped to be the poster child for Christianity,” she added. “I think that I’m still learning.”

Kat Von D Headshot for Celebrity BioKat Von D (Katherine von Drachenberg) is a globally recognized tattoo artist and media personality who experienced a profound spiritual transformation from occult fascination to devout Christianity. After renouncing witchcraft and occult influences, she was baptized into the faith in 2023—an event she calls a powerful moment of spiritual deprogramming and renewal. In 2025, she took another pivotal step by entering the historic Orthodox Church, describing it as a deeply meaningful continuation of her faith journey. For someone known for her dark, macabre aesthetic, Kat’s embrace of light and faith stands as a compelling testimony of God’s transforming power.
